It just seems weird that he would want to do all that work for such a brief stint (less than two months). Especially when someone who is (arguably) less well-known is taking over on a permanent basis. Otherwise, why didn't they convince Ben Platt to do an extra two months or put the understudy on for the interim. (Certainly Galvin- who I wouldn't say is terribly well-known- maintained the SRO crowds, which makes me think that the show can sell itself to a certain extent.)
I guess it's not unprecedented- Angela Lansbury did a shorter stint in THE KING AND I during Yul Brynner's vacation- but in this case it's kind of one non-star taking over for another non-star.)
If it were 1975, I suppose Liza would be putting on the cast and waving through the window? |
