My guess is what Plummer was really saying was the unlikelihood that someone as handsome as him would have fallen for someone as plain as Mary Martin. One of the delightfully unabashed things about Plummer that makes him so good in so many roles is his outrageous ego. (Has anyone done a word-count on that autobiography? The print is TINY and it's long!!!)
