Log onto smtd.umich.edu. for schedule . One symposium deals with sociological aspects, past and future.
+......My ticket calls it the GERSHWIN's PORGY and BESS. In the grad magazine , Michigan Muse, the article runs 5 pages of text, with photos, There is one, and one only, paragraph that mentions Dubose and Anne Heyward....(and I'm guessing it was discussed here-at the time I had no access to a computer at that time.) This was all hashed and re-hashed back in 2011, when the NYTIMES had interviews with the dramaturge(correct term?) and director of the new production, followed the next week with a letter to the editor from Stephen Sondheim.........There's one new tweak to this concert(I'm assuming it is the complete opera . not the shortened versions, the ones from the 40's and 50's as well as the recent one starring Audra MacDonald) There's a song at the end of Act one, "I CAN'T SIT DOWN". It will be performed, not by the Orchestra, but by a children's band(The residents of Catfish Row.) I'm truly looking forward to this. |
