Wow, Joel Grey would have been great, but I can't imagine they even considered giving a virtual unknown the lead in the film of WHERE'S CHARLEY? Even though they should have. And in hindsight, what an excellent idea that would have been!
I do remember that the movie has a full, or fairly full, version of the title song, whereas the '58 London cast album includes less than a minute of it, for some reason. (I've always wondered why. I don't think it was lack of space on an LP, because it's not that long an album by any means.)
Since there was no original Broadway cast recording, and no official recording of the Encores! version, as far as I know there is no complete or near-complete commercial recording of the score available. |
