The score is great -- though the revision has eliminated some songs and added some other songs which aren't on the OCR. It's being done with a cast of 9. I thought the book made Georgina rather pugnacious and conflicted, which sort of goes against all the "charming" and "electrifying" reviews of Leslie Uggams in the original; Stephanie Umoh was more of a fighter, even though she does have two love interests throughout the show. Her voice was good, though encouraged to "American Idol-ize" somewhat by adding some higher belt notes than Uggams. The standout performance was actually Vivian Reed as the Mom, who might have made a formidable Georgina some years ago. Ms. Reed was hilarious, and in fine voice, even employing some operatic flashes of voice that would have made Leontyne Price proud. The leading men were good, with an especially nice voice and presence from Tally Sessions as her white suitor. The lovely song "Not Mine" was actually very interesting done as a duet between the two guys (Sessions and Jarran Muse). But I still think I'd rather have seen the original book, rather than this some years later tinkering and re-thinking from Arthur Laurents. The re-ordering and cuts of some of the songs, and the addition of "When the Weather's Better" as not only a new song, but one reprised several times as almost a leitmotif, even though it's a nice song, just seemed to make this into a very different show from what won it the Best Musical years ago.
