| Having seen the show not in the original Broadway production but in stock with Diana Sands, Leon Bibb and Allan Case, I recall at the time though I was only a teenager I found it entertaining but very slight considering the subject. 1968 was a very weak year for musicals. The other Tony nominees that year were "How Now, Dow Jones," "Illya, Darling," and "The Happy Time." "Darling of the Day" was not nominated. It is doubtful In my mind at least that "Hallelujah, Baby" would have won in any other year. That does not diminish the performances of the cast however. Ms Uggams was reportedly Incandescent on Broadway and Ms Sands was wonderful in a rare musical role. |
