| Pardon the intrusion in this love fest (and yes it was my favorite show of that year too) but the Tonys are awards bestowed by the people who make money in the theatre, not people who are especially concerned with money losing masterpieces. Any attempt to rationalize the awards on any other basis is, well, irrational. The best we can hope for is that there is sometimes a confluence. As an aside (and speaking of...) I am shocked anyone who appreciated Caroline doesn't think Hamilton is the best musical in basically 2 generations, but that's another thread. |
