I can't tell but it feels when reading both your posts addressing Hamilton and my opinion that you thinking I don't love Hamilton - but in both my posts it was referred to as a benchmark of musical theater genius. I was blown away and brought to tears (or almost to tears, i forget honestly, it was awhile ago now, I only saw it one time in it's Public run). But I do think it relies on more easy and traditional storytelling and that it's emotional moments are more easily won than Caroline's. I was also emotional at Caroline, but I think the difference of the two shows is that Hamilton had it's full impact on me when I saw it, Caroline didn't until later but not because it didn't have a big impact on me at first. There's also no point in judging them by comparing them, they are very different shows.

And to be fair, even though I was processing Caroline when I first saw it, I still knew even as a 21 year that I would have voted for it for Best Score and Best Book! The Tony voters don't get off the hook in my book just because they may have also been processing and not awarding it just for it's ambition. I think it had huge ambition and reached it, that doesn't mean all the layers of it will be felt by everyone during one viewing of it, especially since it is very different than most musicals. Like I said in another post, this happened to me with Sunday in the Park... it wasn't till after the first experience of it that it's many nuances and layers started working on me, that doesn't make it any less amazing or mean it had ambition but didn't deliver on it entirely, that show does also, and I think Sunday and Caroline are perhaps the two richest musical experiences for me in terms of nuanced emotional pay off.
