The Tonys used to go by calendar year, rather than June 1 to May 31; Halleujah actually opened in the 66-67 season, but when the Tonys began broadcasting on Nat Tv, the end of the traditional season was chopped off and moved to the next year............... Variety used to poll the Drama critics, and their best musical actress(for 66-67) was Barbara Harris in the APPLE TREE, but there was a category called Most Promising newcomer, and Miss Uggams was named for that(I don't think you got a trophy or anything, just satisfaction. SEESAW(one of my favorite scores(except for "Ride out the Storm)), opened in the 72-3 Season, but by Tony eligibility it was a 73-4 show....I remember reading the NY Drama crits circle votes(They used to be published in BEST PLAYSof the year.)In a season where the best musical votes were almost evenly divided between ALNM and Pippin,(ALMN WON) Walter' Kerr's s choice for Best Musical was SEESAW
