Saw it in Detroit. I thought it was so over the top it was a joke but the two ladies I was with loved it. I laughed at the end when she belts out while dying. Also two of the melodies he reuses from other shows.

I loathe LND (the story is beyond ridiculous)... but the score itself is, in many places, quite lovely. And I know ALW shows extremely well. I refute your claim that any melody is reused from any other show, except possibly a passing phrase or two.

"Also two of the melodies he reuses from other shows."

Only two? The rest must be from Puccini himself.

Saw it last week in Boston - my main question about the
show is why? The production is in fine form, but the
book requires way too much suspension of disbelief.
That's being kind.

I'm seeing next week Thursday and will review for TB, if that helps. But if you love Phantom, you sorta have to see it, don't you?

Saw it and reviewed it for West Coast Florida. After I did at least one other reviewer covered it as well, maybe two. I didn't much care for it, side by side Phantom of the Opera (as opposed to Maury Yeston's Phantom, LOL) is much stronger musically. I found it more or less a Yawn.

. I saw it in Detroit. It doesn't have (to me) a tune as striking as Music of the Night, but the plot moves, the sets are striking, I finally got to see Karen Mason on stage and, overall, I enjoyed it more than PHANTOM( to be fair, I was not a Phantom Fan/

If ALW wants to see this show on Broadway, all he has to do is make a phone call and write a check. Obscene wealth greases all wheels.

It can't be all THAT much of a dream, if making it a reality is fully in his grasp and he hasn't followed through.

I have to assume he is frightened of being known as the only composer who had a hit show and a panned flap sequence to that show running together on Broadway... as could possibly happen if any of the versions of LND gets to broadway (based on what I've heard and read over the years, I have yet to see it).

Saw it in Tampa...fantastic!
The first play I ever saw was on Broadway in 1956 with Gwen Verdon & Ray Walston.. I then moved to Chicago, continued to travel ( NYC, London, etc.) and recently settled in Tampa. I have seen about 8-10 shows per year since 1956. I have all of the playbills saved but keep the BEST 42 framed and hung on the wall in my "theatre" room in my home and one of the 42 of all those shows is LOVE NEVER DIES! That means that I compare and rate it as on of the top 42 shows compared to about 600 others...it's a 42star our of 42 in my rating system! You critics-do you listen to us and watch us, the paying audience? WE LOVE THIS SHOW!

It's everyone who writes a musical's dream to see their show on Broadway... and why wouldn't he, one of the undisputed kings of Broadway, want this show he's worked on several times over the years make it there, let alone playing at the same time as the hit show this musical is a sequel to! That's not a good enough reason to see it or for it to get to Broadway.

That being said I'll probably see the tour just out of curiosity.
