| I remember seeing that as a kid and I thought it was just the funniest play ever. Mahoney, Kurtz, Stockard Channing, Julie Hagerty, Ben Stiller were all just perfect. For some reason the TV version doesn't really capture it all (I remember being hysterical at the nuns running up and down the aisles of Lincoln Center. Baranski didn't really replace Channing effectively and the revival.........well Edie Falco was good and that was about it. He seemed like a nice man and yes Moonstruck was a great performance. I've heard people just rave about that production of Orphans he was in also. |

| That was a great production, and yes, it was much better live since Baranski had the wrong tone for it on tv in comparison to Channing on stage. Mahoney was terrific; his character is supposed to be a bad singer/songwriter, and Mr. Mahoney (whether it was his real voice or his worse version of it), had one of the worst singing voices I've ever heard--- so funny! The female version would be Candice Bergen in the film "Starting Over" (also hilarious). But Mahoney and Swoosie Kurtz were so funny and so moving in "House of Blue Leaves", and rest of the cast was wonderful, too. Of course, Mr. Mahoney was always a pleasure to watch on "Frasier" along with the rest of that marvelous cast. He was born in England, and actually started his professional career as an actor in Chicago when he was in his 40s. Rest in peace. | |

| I first remember him in a small, but memorable performance in the Steppenwolf "Balm in Gilead," which propelled Laurie Metcalf into a Chicago star. He was always excellent. | |

| She originated the role and I always saw her when I read it... I would have loved to have seen that. | |

| I saw the original production with Katherine Helmond and Anne Meara at the Truck and Warehouse Theatre now the New York Theatre Workshop space. They were both absolutely brilliant as was the entire company. Helmond 's performance was extremely touching and Meara was hilarious as Bunny. | |

| I saw the original and agree with Castro. It was a wonderful show -- both touching and very funny. I had out-of-town guests visiting and was looking for something to do on a cold winter night. I think it was a Sunday and there wasn't much else available. We were waiting in the lobby of the theater, still trying to get warm, when Carol Channing walked in with her husband. Soon after Michael Douglas appeared with his then squeeze, Brenda Vaccaro. Finally, Joan Rivers and her husband walked in. She was looking quite glamorous! We could hear Rivers' distinctive laugh all through the show. My guests loved the show and were equally impressed with the celebrity turnout in this small out-of-the-way theater. | Loved Baranski on stage and everything I saw John Mahoney do. The TV version was a misfire. My recollection is that there was no audience, which threw everything off. | |
