| Last semester I taught musical theatre, and one day, just for fun, I showed them the Tony Awards clips of Idina Menzel and Tonya Pinkins performances of their respective songs. Compared to the bland-pop repetitiveness of "Defying Gravity", "Lot's Wife" was just a simply stunning thing for these kids to watch. My class literally stood and applauded. when I told them that Menzel won over Pinkins, they were outraged- and I had a fair share of Wicked fans in the class. It's clearly, on every level, a superior show, score, and performance!! |

| YES!!! Woohoo for smart kids! This gives me hope. And that's seeing Lots Wife out of context AND with the beginning cut off and a very horse performance from Tonya, it wasn't a good night for her voice but she still killed it. |

| Not to mention those ridiculous wide shot camera angles whoever directs the Tonys for television insists on using for solo performances. Why the director always feels the need to show us the bird's eye view AT ALL, let alone right as the singer reaches a climax in the song so we have no hope of seeing her face or expression, I will never know. | |
