Last semester I taught musical theatre, and one day, just for fun, I showed them the Tony Awards clips of Idina Menzel and Tonya Pinkins performances of their respective songs. Compared to the bland-pop repetitiveness of "Defying Gravity", "Lot's Wife" was just a simply stunning thing for these kids to watch. My class literally stood and applauded.
when I told them that Menzel won over Pinkins, they were outraged- and I had a fair share of Wicked fans in the class.
It's clearly, on every level, a superior show, score, and performance!! |
