It would make me very happy if you'd concede to place Evita on your list. I realize it isn't the strongest score ever written, but it's up there, and certainly the finest, harshest, and most intriguing of Lloyd-Webber's output (and I do love me some Andrew!).

I do love that score, but I don't think it's "genius" as a score alone (i mean, some dreadful lyrics is just one thing keeping it from being on that level) - the reason it's in the maybe list for "genius of musical theater" is that it is a successful pop/rock opera that tells a political story with no happy ending, etc, and looks at things from a very interesting point of view. It doesn't set out to tell the story of an icon, it sets out to analyze her and her place in the world and what that meant. Those things mixed together, and being a hit, I think broke ground. But in many ways JCS does the same thing.
