While I appreciate that she would like to not comment on either her husband or her mother, which she is perfectly entitled to keep private, I would selfishly LOVE to hear her talk about how her life experiences informed her work, especially in GYPSY, where her early career experiences are pretty unique and pertinent to the character, and HELLO, DOLLY!, where her pertinent experience may not be all that unique per se, but would still open a window into her approach to the character.

Donna Murphy had also lost her husband relatively recently...does anyone here recall if she ever spoke about how this may have affected her approach to the role?

Listen to Ms. Murphy's appearance on the podcast "Little Known Facts." I believe she goes into this a bit. It's a double-episode interview, btw, and I have no idea where in the interview they get around to this subject.

Also, listen to every episode of this podcast because it's terrific and the host, Ilana Levine (of "...Ballyhoo, ...Charlie Brown," and "that episode of 'Seinfeld'" fame), is a brilliant interviewer and listener. In addition to her interview with Donna Murphy, the interviews with Allison Janney and Lesli Margherita stand out as being particularly illuminating.
