It's interesting that Reza is quoted as saying that the play should only be done by men. I don't think this wish was conveyed to whichever house licenses the play, or perhaps she changed her mind at some point, because I've heard of both all female casts and mixed casts performing it.

The play ran a lot longer in London than it did in New York and I also think some of the replacement casts there were younger than Reza's ideal of 50ish. I recall visiting one year and seeing the current cast, whomever they were, plastered all over the tube stations and they appeared to be in their mid-30's. I think the play would work with casts anywhere from mid-30's onward as long as everyone is in the same age bracket. While I loved the original New York cast (which I had the added benefit of seeing alongside my best friend), I thought that Alda seemed much older than Garber and Molina and seemed to be the "elder statesman" of the group.

In any case, was not Mahoney significantly older than Grammer and Pierce, since he played their father on television?
