Non-AEA tour economics question
Posted by: CamMacFan 12:58 am EST 02/08/18

When tours go out as Non-AEA (or transition to Non-AEA), do the original creative team get any sort of compensation?

For example, the current tour of "Kinky Boots" lists D.B. Bonds and Rusty Mowery as Director and Choreographer, but also says they are re-creating Jerry Mitchell's work.

The SDC Broadway contract is here. Have fun! http://sdcweb.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/SDC-Agreement-League-Contract-Final-11-15.pdf

I THINK it says the original choreographer is paid 1/2 the minimum fee. See Section VI B. I may be reading it wrong. Plus this is a minimum contract and a director/choreographer can negotiate anything that is at least as much $ as the minimum. Jerry Mitchell certainly has clout. He might have negotiated royalty or profit sharing. You can't tell unless you get the papers through the NY AG's office, if the tour was organized in NY.
