Harry Potter Queue

I got online at 10:45 to get my queue number for today. At 11: 00 on the dot I was assigned number 18,473. In four minutes, they have gone down about 800 numbers. Extrapolating from there, it should take a little over an hour and a half to get to me.

Twiddling my thumbs and hoping my computer doesn't crash.

I came late to the game (about 12:15, having forgotten about it), and I am # 63,329. The Cursed Child will be in college by the time I get tickets. I'm OK with 2019.

I was number 7400 (or so) in the queue and got in by 11:15. There was a lot of availability, even for weekends, which surprised me and reinforced my impression that this whole thing is a marketing hype/scam. That said, for a Saturday in June, I was offered a pair of tickets for both parts in the Dress Circle, Row B, seats 13-15, for $199 per part, which is more than I usually spend but acceptable for those seats in this production. The Lyric is a barn, but at least I will not be tucked in a corner somewhere.

But the fact that I was able to very easily secure two seats that I consider to be very good for the price (in this show) after two sold out pre-sales makes me wonder what is up. I have no regrets about this purchase at all, but the process leaves a bad taste.

Wow, Row B in the circle IS good! We're a Thursday and Friday in June and we're F dress circle. I completely agree about the whole thing being a marketing scam. I'm really annoyed by the whole thing.

Robert_j, were you able to pick your seats, or did they pick for you? I'm wondering how much searching they are allowing at this point.

You can choose the date and the general price category. I was prepared to pay $199 so I only searched once for prices in that category ("Best Available"), and they chose the seats and put them in my cart (Sec DRESSL, Row B, Seat 13 - 15). Probably I could have refined the search further, but I thought I would try Best Available to start. It is possible I could have declined the seats and started over, but I was nervous about getting tossed back into the queue. Because the tickets were acceptable (and, let's face it, there was no chance I was going to be offered ORCH E 107-108 for that price...), I went with it.

It definitely helps to temper your expectations. Usually I would not spend $850 on anything unless I was sitting in the front row at the Metropolitan Opera (and even then it would have to be a very special production). But this is an event and is the only show my wife has been excited about for the past several years (I am the theater fan), so I am okay to make some compromises. Maybe even the show will be good!

Thanks! I ended up getting a ticket in Row L seat 34 for $199 for a weekday. Not a great seat but not the worst. If the little map for the seat location is accurate, then 33/34 is the last seat on the side for the orchestra.

Do you know where the Dress Circle overlaps the Orchestra here or still not known after chnages ?

According to the other board, the front of the dress circle is being extended further (i.e., towards the stage) about 5-6 rows from where it was before, which is a welcome surprise. If you can find a new seating chart, you will see that the dress circle now actually extends in front of the dress circle boxes, which is interesting, but it should give some idea of how much it has changed (while also raising new questions...). What is tricky is that the seating chart does not tell how many seats are in each row, although it looks like the center dress circle is wider than it was before and the side sections are narrower.

As extending the back wall. Row a-h looking exactly the same in both charts. It’s only k-m that looks new and smaller like a back wall breakout. But I’m only basing that on the chart and not any other facts. Moving the mezz forward would most likely mean dropping it lower and reducing rear orch seats which didn’t seem to happen.

Can they extend the back wall? I was looking at the front of the dress circle compared to the boxes. In the old one the boxes were all in front of the dress circle, but in the new plan the dress circle extends out to meet them. I guess we will find out soon -- and hopefully the changes are all for the better! The Lyric is a theater that I have always wanted to like but have never quite warmed to.

"The Lyric has 1,900 seats, making it the second-largest theater on Broadway. Producers complain that shows often get swallowed up in its vastness. To make the theater more intimate for “Harry Potter,” 400 seats will be removed and the back wall of the auditorium will be moved closer to the stage."

It's moving much faster now. I anticipate betting in in another 15 minutes, about half my original estimate. I don;t know if tjhat bodes well or ill for my finding seats when I need them (I have a nephew coming to town in July).

I am number 36,000, so I think that the tickets will be gone by the time that they get to me.

Despite their saying that the numbers were randomly assigned, I'm not sure that was true. I logged on around 10:53 on both my phone and my desktop, and I got almost the same number in line for both.

I think you and I discussed this before, but it seems like they’re still not releasing the true premium seats... The best I saw was orch left row K seat 15 for 299... I’m guessing that front section of the orch (rows AA-J) is going to be 399 or 499, but when and how are they going to release them?

I got seats in Row H (side) orchestra in the first pre-sale for 199 each

Right, but I’m talking about closer to the center, say seats 1-19 and 2-20 or so....

In reply to: re: I got seats in Row H - SuzanneR 12:43 pm EST 02/08/18

I was offered F8 for a Wednesday in the fall this time around for $299. I'm pretty sure it was orchestra. I threw it back because it was more than I wanted to spend (I only checked because I was curious), but I was very tempted (which I guess is the idea...).

There were very few dates after the first month or so that had no ticket availability at all, even though I didn't get in until around noon, so they apparently held back a decent amount of the house for the "sold out" pre-sales.

Oh wow, okay, that's nice then, if 299 is the highest price... I got in around 1120 and looked at dates in late May/early June, I guess they were gone and/or being held back....

The whole seating/pricing is so unclear here, so who knows what is actually going on. Someone on BroadwayWorld made it sound like they got a Row F center-ish ticket today as well. They certainly could be selling them for more than $299, so I guess it's a good thing that they seem to be sticking to that for now, at least.

I got in line just for fun at 11:30 (I am curious after yesterday to see what seats are available) and was given 55153 with 31467 people ahead of me.
I find that fascinating. I wonder how many are scalpers...

It does not matter how high your number is if you got there before 11am
Posted by: Leon_W 11:16 am EST 02/08/18
In reply to: re: Harry Potter Queue - mikem 11:08 am EST 02/08/18

Before 11am we all get a number, then from all the numbers allocated people randomly get assigned a chance to buy tickets. So number 5 might get a code then number 40000 next etc

After 11am the number you got is your place in line and it absolutely matters how high a number it is then.

I got number 18,473 and they say there are still 11,738 ahead of me. I won't be able to buy tickets until there are none ahead of me. So it DOES matter!

Look at the loading page now you may be correct however originally they said it does not matter what time you enter the queue between 10.30am and 11am because you randomly get chosen.

I'm not sure that what they said matches with what actually happened.

There was a sudden drop in the queue, so they've now gone through 15,000 people. I wonder if they opened up more capacity.

This whole process just seems like a lot of hoops to jump through...

It takes time to choose your quantity, your dates, select your seats, etc. (not that you actually get to select your seat, but you have to pick your location) ... then go to payment, enter your credit card secret number (I can never remember what it's called) ... so the first 5 minutes have few finishers, and then it's a constant stream after that.
