You can choose the date and the general price category. I was prepared to pay $199 so I only searched once for prices in that category ("Best Available"), and they chose the seats and put them in my cart (Sec DRESSL, Row B, Seat 13 - 15). Probably I could have refined the search further, but I thought I would try Best Available to start. It is possible I could have declined the seats and started over, but I was nervous about getting tossed back into the queue. Because the tickets were acceptable (and, let's face it, there was no chance I was going to be offered ORCH E 107-108 for that price...), I went with it.

It definitely helps to temper your expectations. Usually I would not spend $850 on anything unless I was sitting in the front row at the Metropolitan Opera (and even then it would have to be a very special production). But this is an event and is the only show my wife has been excited about for the past several years (I am the theater fan), so I am okay to make some compromises. Maybe even the show will be good!

Thanks! I ended up getting a ticket in Row L seat 34 for $199 for a weekday. Not a great seat but not the worst. If the little map for the seat location is accurate, then 33/34 is the last seat on the side for the orchestra.

According to the other board, the front of the dress circle is being extended further (i.e., towards the stage) about 5-6 rows from where it was before, which is a welcome surprise. If you can find a new seating chart, you will see that the dress circle now actually extends in front of the dress circle boxes, which is interesting, but it should give some idea of how much it has changed (while also raising new questions...). What is tricky is that the seating chart does not tell how many seats are in each row, although it looks like the center dress circle is wider than it was before and the side sections are narrower.

I interpreted the seating chart

As extending the back wall. Row a-h looking exactly the same in both charts. It’s only k-m that looks new and smaller like a back wall breakout. But I’m only basing that on the chart and not any other facts. Moving the mezz forward would most likely mean dropping it lower and reducing rear orch seats which didn’t seem to happen.

Can they extend the back wall? I was looking at the front of the dress circle compared to the boxes. In the old one the boxes were all in front of the dress circle, but in the new plan the dress circle extends out to meet them. I guess we will find out soon -- and hopefully the changes are all for the better! The Lyric is a theater that I have always wanted to like but have never quite warmed to.

Because mezz started at row n or o which was too far back.

"The Lyric has 1,900 seats, making it the second-largest theater on Broadway. Producers complain that shows often get swallowed up in its vastness. To make the theater more intimate for “Harry Potter,” 400 seats will be removed and the back wall of the auditorium will be moved closer to the stage."
