| They are following the exact same path taken by BEAUTY QUEEN .... and that didn't go too badly. Oddly, and rather wonderfully, MM is now amongst the VERY few playwrights who actually has a scintilla of name recognition to the general public -- in the UK he has a lot and is a star all by himself (as is Jez Butterworth) but I suspect even on Broadway his name counts for something and the timing of 3 BILLBOARDS represents catnip to the (very nervous, or at least they were) producers. | |

| Yeah - now if only the play served up the brilliant or excitement or even uniqueness that some of his others have, it would be well worth the fuss. | |

| Ha, I'm being cheeky. But in my post trying to discuss how notable and unique it is that McDonagh, previously unknown before the late 1990s, has 7 (at the time of the post 6, with Hangman running off-bway at the time) *Broadway* productions of his new plays in the last 20 years... there were a couple who chose to focus on the fact that Hangmen was not on Broadway and easily might not transfer. I said that with his track record, and the large new interest in his work due to the popular and awards success of 3 Billboards, it would definitely have at least a limited Broadway run. I'm sure most people thought the same thing. |
