Sounds like this could be really great, but can someone explain to me what "Here’s a fun project for Berlin" means at the top of the Deadline article? Sorry in advance if it's something I should know....

The European Film Market at the Berlin Festival. It's basically a convention to pitch prospective investors in a film project. If CAA is behind a project like it is here I'd guess that a lot of the elements are in place but sometimes a project can be just a mock-up poster on an easel with a sales rep standing next to it.

No real reason you should know.
The European Film Market is being held in Berlin and it appears this, and other possible films, are being shopped around.

I thought it was wonderful when I saw it back in 2000 with one of Busch's characteristically ambiguous endings. I have my doubts whether in 2018 and in a non-theatrical format that that ambiguity will play as well as it did back in 2000.

Who will play her mom?
Will the script still have her destroy a Disney store?

This is a great idea...I wonder if, assuming it's successful, there's any chance of a HELLO, DOLLY! movie starring Midler.

You must have missed her in the recent HBO film "Mosaic," directed by Steven Soderberg. She was terrific as a rich, needy murder victim and got a bunch of very good reviews. Probably the reason she got signed up for this. She's hot again.

I think the contrast between Stone and Midler is exactly what the two roles need.

Of course Stone is actually about 12 years younger than Midler, when the characters are supposed to be the same age. To contrast, Michelle Lee is only 5 years younger than Linda Lavin and Marilu Henner is only 4 years younger than Rhea Perlman.

Midler could probably pass for 60ish, even on film (and especially with Hollywood magic), so the difference probably doesn't matter all that much.
