I thought it was a wonderful recreation of past musical performances; the numbers (for the most part) were well chosen and wonderfully performed. Any theater geek who like 60s musicals would be happy to be able to have seen these recreations. While I enjoyed the performances of Wildcat and Greenwillow, I do think some other properties would have been better choices. I find it strange that no one has mentioned Vanessa Williams' turn. I love the score for Jamaica (it was my first cast album), and I was wary of the choice of her for Jamaica to begin with. I feel that, for me, the sequence was the jarring note that stuck out in the show. It seemed to be all about her and not the music or the show. It seemed like a diva turn, and I wonder if she agreed to do the show only if she would be the centerpiece and make it all about her. In all the other numbers, the songs were presented in context of what was happening in the story and more or less how they were done originally. The Jamaica numbers were presented without any context, and they were not done as they were in the show (Push De Button was a big production number, while here she just had four chorus boys to frame HER). I think her entrance said it all; she just came to sing her way. (If that was a directorial choice, I feel it was a poor one, given the staging of the rest of the show. )
