The first 5 of the 7 musicals are from different decades. So how are ''Chicago'' (2002) and ''Dreamgirls'' (2006) from different ''eras''? ;)

As for ''Newsies,'' it was a flop at the box office. But it became a cult favorite for kids on video, and it aired a lot on the Disney Channel.

Jeremy Jordan, the star of the Broadway version, told me he saw ''Newsies'' at the movies, but watched it ''billions of times on VHS.''

“Newsies” kept popping up in his life, even when Jeremy went to Ithaca College, where he earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater: “We put on a show for incoming freshmen that was themed to ‘Newsies.’ But we rewrote the words. Instead of singing ‘Santa Fe,’ we sang ‘BFA.’”
