They released a clip of one of Bryan Adams' songs and - while it isn't appropriate to judge an entire score from a brief snippet - this doesn't inspire confidence.

I thought the same thing when I saw that clip yesterday. When you have redundant lyrics like "Everything is different/Everything has changed", you know the lyricist has nothing to say. (It reminds me of a grating lyric from "Defying Gravity": "Something has changed within me/Something is not the same"). Plus they have that hoary rhyme eyes/realize. Ugh.

But the reviewer singled this number out as the best song in the show.

The melody was nice but the lyrics, not great. But this is a show of pop songs so it is what it is.

Having seen the show on the first preview, that was my feeling for all the songs - the generic lyrics were the primary problem.

That is so true, it isn't appropriate enough to judge an entire score from a brief snippet. I think the song is pleasant enough. It even may have some earworm qualities.
