Sounds somewhat similar, where the show is relatively strong and there's an audience in theory, but at this particular moment folks are busy with Lion King, Aladdin, Mean Girls, Anastasia, Harry Potter, and Frozen. Thoughts?

I don't think spongebob would do well even without competition. It did make just over $1m last week. But phantom took in $1.6m for school week! Frozen was almost $3m. SpongeBob is another musical I didn't buy the cd. For this season, I did buy bands visit and once on this island revival.

No show is everyone's cup of tea, but broadly speaking, the word on Spongebob is largely positive. That's why I think the parallel works. And I think most of the many, many other screen-to-stage properties on Broadway (save maybe Bronx Tale and School of Rock, though their grosses were staggering last week) have stronger pull right now.

SpongeBob won't. I'm a little surprised Bronx tale isn't doing better. It Is having good run on Broadway and the tour will probably do well in subscription houses, but I don't think it is making enough to recoup. But the score works for Bronx tale and I'll see it on tour. I never want to see spongebob again. And I throughly enjoyed Aladdin tour stop a few months ago. Although I doubt I'd sit through frozen again--I was disappointed in the production.

what will develop an audience. While I can see the reasons why, my heart is still surprised that Bronx Tale and School of Rock are still on Broadway, but Something Rotten! closed and super stunned that Bandstand is gone. That show was terrific. Add so it goes.

So no surprise to me that bronx tale survived and both are probably around the same running cost. Something rotten was 3 seasons ago (fun home win and nothing is still opened now) and school of Rock two seasons ago (with waitress and Hamilton still open).

Something Rotten would have been better off waiting a year and coming in when a more appropriate theater was available. The St. James has become a white elephant, although maybe Frozen will change its luck. I liked it a little more than you did.

Though SpongeBob's grosses have been mighty low-- they posted just over 1 million for last week. First time for that. I'm sure it's due to spring break.
