  • Last week, which ended April 1 and included the Easter and Passover holidays, Broadway grosses totaled $42,016,689 for 35 shows.

In the prior week, which ended March 25, Broadway grosses totaled $35,414,663 for 34 shows.

In the comparable Easter week last year, ended 4/16/2017, Broadway grosses totaled $41,151,035 for 40 shows.

  • Broadway enjoyed a great week thanks to Easter and Passover falling on the same weekend. Even with the great numbers though, 28,000 fewer people attended a show this year than Easter week in 2017 when there were 5 additional shows on the boards. Yet over 95% of available seats were occupied last week (including comps).

    — Disney did exceptionally well with its 3 shows, cumulatively grossing $7,449,582, thanks to dynamic pricing and with The Lion King and Aladdin playing a 9-performance week. The Lion King grossed $3,092,152, knocking Hamilton off the top spot for last week. Aladdin grossed over $2 million. And newcomer Frozen also topped the $2 million mark for its first full week after opening.

—- On the flip side, Escape to Margaritaville and Children of a Lesser God are looking dismal.

    — Incidentally, this is the first week that The Book of Mormon did not make the top ten in grosses or average ticket price. That's despite selling out as usual and achieving 105% of its potential gross.

Well above potential gross. Escape really is doing poorly. I doubt that the reviews will help much. They probably will stay open for Tony nominations and a spot at the ceremony.

Potter was about same numbers, so that will most likely mean that it will be at $2m when 8 show weeks begin.

I wonder if Angels will cross the $1m based on reviews or was this a holiday week bump like some other shows.
