.....but she declined them. Obviously her choice but she is one of the only great stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood not to receive one. I always love explaining her career to younger people: when you lay it all out, her range of work and huge stardom really are amazing.
But how lovely that she seems so well and happy in her late 90s!
You know, she is lovely reminder of when stars were once an unattainable commodity. Without TV and the internet to shove every actor's face down our throats 24/7, that greatest generation of stars- the Hepburns and Grants and Stewarts and Crawfords- had an air of specialness about them that only Daniel Day Lewis still kind of holds. (Much as I love Meryl, she is no shrinking violet and seems to be everywhere.)
I love that s sighting of Doris Day is an event. |
