Tom O'Neil of GoldDerby.com says Doris Day has privately told the Academy that if she were given a special Oscar, she wouldn't attend.
I wish the Academy were flexible enough to allow her to accept such an honor via a remote at her home, or with just audio of her.
And even if Doris didn't want to do either of those, the Academy oughta give it to her anyway, just for the record books.
After all, you can win an Oscar without appearing in L.A. to accept it; Glenda Jackson and Woody Allen are just 2 examples.
O'Neil says Doris' last award appearance was in 1989 at the Golden Globes, and she gave a gracious speech.
Doris, then 65, even hinted that she might work again and that ''the best is yet to come.'' |
