Interestingly, the twenty acting nominees for a play come from fifteen different shows. On the other hand, only 4 musicals account for 14 of the 20 nominees for musicals.

I'm assuming that's because there are so many more eligible plays than eligible musicals.

But why is there only one category for Director, which covers both plays and musicals?

''KPOP'' got a leading 9 Lortel nominations, which is 3 more than its closest rivals, ''Mary Jane'' and ''Bella: An American Tall Tale,'' each with 6.

Yet ''KPOP's'' director, Teddy Bergman, isn't even nominated, and he coordinated the show's immersive, multi-level, site-specific spectacle.
