Funny to see this post, I was thinking about this play recently too.
It's interesting that only a few years earlier the play won the Pulitzer and had a long run Off Broadway. I gather this wasn't any sort of a transfer to Broadway but rather a completely new production. It does seem it should have been a perfect vehicle for Winters. The film adaptation with Joanne Woodward, directed by Paul Newman was released sometime between the Off Broadway and Broadway productions, so maybe it was just too soon or over exposed at the time to be of interest? |
