Weren't Nolen and Stubby Kaye above the title too? They could have been nominated as lead also, no? (didn't see it so don't know the size of the roles but billing was lead.) I didn't realize Harrigan and Hart was that year. So Groener and Hammil were that bad they didn't merit a nomination?
They must have been making some political point. I doubt this would happen nowadays.
