I notice that no previous Mrs. Higginses have been nominated for a Tony. (Cathleen Nesbitt played her twice- in 1956 and then in 1981- and then Brenda Forbes and Dolores Sutton.)
If Dame Diana did get nominated, would she be the first actress nominated in a musical who never sang a note? (Unless she is singing Ascot Gavotte in this production?)
And I haven't read any of the books about the creation of MY FAIR LADY, but did L&L ever pen a song for Mrs. Higgins? I can imagine there being a spot for it in the scene with her and Eliza at the end. "Show Me" or "Without You" could have been restructured to be song by Mrs. H. to Eliza? |
