| Denyce Graves played/sang Nettie in the Chicago Lyric Opera production and was fine. Ms. Fleming is also fine. The role is often, even in the original, essayed by a mezzo soprano our opera diva for the obvious requirements of the song. The problem with the Chicago production was that Princess Cruise ship lumbering in the background of Soliloquy. No one has ever been able to explain that one to me. |
