| STAGE: a new OTT channel |

Might be old news, but I'm just catching up after a few weeks of crazy travel. It's been announced there will be a new streaming network (OTT) for theater fans. Let me hare some of my thoughts on how insane this idea is:
1. If recording companies can't make a profit off of a single cast recording...
2. Anyone who has ever worked in OTT knows the cardinal rule: Content is King. If you can find the content elsewhere, it's not worth subscribing.
3. The next great broadway musical reality show promising a broadway production. Sure.
4. Have I mentioned content is king? I should define that further- Premium Content You Can't Find Anywhere Else
5. Giving it away for free and then charging has worked great in the past...for nobody ever! Maybe except The New York Times (please see points 2 and 4)
6. No distribution partners means no business. At least get a Roku deal. They'll put anyone on their platform.
Sorry to be a Debbie downer, but I get infuriated when well-intentioned people attempt something poorly.
Let the slings and arrows commence. |
