Rose Bruford College and the National Theater Institute announce the launch of a three-year MFA International Theatre Practice and Performance program validated by Rose Bruford College (RBC) in London and delivered in collaboration with the United State’s National Theater Institute (NTI). This new program offers comprehensive theater training drawn from three of the world’s leading theater schools.

The unique international degree takes place across three countries: year one at Rose Bruford College in London, UK; year two at National Theater Institute at Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Connecticut, USA; and the third year begins with three months with NTI at the Moscow Art Theatre School in Russia and ends in London with a capstone production. The program uniquely integrates the British, American, and Russian approaches to theater training. Students will draw on the benefits and experience of these three leading international drama schools with renowned reputation for delivering high-quality vocational theater training.

The MA/MFA International Theatre Practice and Performance aims to inspire the theater and performance artists of tomorrow and appeal to those committed to the creation of their own work – whether as actors, directors, or writers for the stage. It is rigorous, intensive, comprehensive, and practical, integrating a deep curiosity for life with a passion for theater and performance. Students will undertake a profound practical investigation into contemporary performance, directing, and writing, and their relationship to performance creation. This opens up the space for the development of innovative new practice and knowledge as well as creating original fusions between cutting edge technologies, current scientific knowledge, and global social and political movements through the medium of performance and theater.

Students on this course will not just be internationally-focused, highly motivated and self-reflective, but also to be self-sustaining in their approach to theater making, productions, and resources, taking charge of their own creative destiny and shaping theater, arts, and culture of the future.

“What an extraordinary opportunity this programme offers for a group of emerging artists!” Niamh Dowling, Head of School of Performance at Rose Bruford College explains: “NTI and Rose Bruford College staff have jointly designed a programme which takes the best of world leading training and designing the accumulation of skills, training, locations and theatrical contexts to provide a unique, rich and profound experience that will shape international artists of the future.”

NTI Artistic Director Rachel Jett adds: "We are thrilled to announce this absolutely unique MFA. Not only will students train at some of the world's leading theaters, but gain invaluable cultural literacy: the travel, artists, and theater that students will experience as part of this degree. We created the MFA program where we would want to train: one that crosses borders to provide the very best instruction from professional artists across disciplines, one that provides access to the exceptional theater that each of these countries are known for and one that builds an international ensemble of theater makers. Our goal is to provide the experiences, mentorship, and platform to launch them into the theatrical profession."
