So much about telling a story. And the hornpipe, in this original version, seems to celebrate sexual tension between men and women, and, in the current Broadway version, it seems to be about the men selling Billy on the option of leaving his wife and shipping out.
Thank you, Alan Scott. And thank you to the gentleman who posted the Louise-dance from the celebrated revival.
Wow.
Ok.
Now here’s a question.
In the current revival, Billy doesn’t slap his daughter’s face. He kinda slaps her hand. Is this a bad stage-combat thing...or is this the intention?
Was O’Brien’s idea to completely erase Billy’s violent side? Or was it Joshua Henry’s or his and Mueller’s...? Or all three...? It is becoming curiouser and curiouser as I am being educated here on the board.
And...WHERE CAN I SEE A RECORDING OF THE MICHAEL HAYDEN REVIVAL? That girl Sally Murphy, in youtube clips, is so arresting. |
