May 5th, 2014 -- The great JAN MAXWELL (1956-2018) makes her final New York stage appearance, starring in the world premiere of Anthony Giardina's THE CITY OF CONVERSATION, which opens tonight Off-Broadway in the Mitzi Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center. She plays a Georgetown political hostess in the play that covers 30 years, from the waning days of the Carter administration to the beginning of the Obama presidency. Doug Hughes directs a large cast that includes Beth Dixon and Barbara Garrick for this two-and-a-half-month limited run. Maxwell will die from breast cancer on February 11th, 2018 at the age of 61.
I saw this production from a front-row-center seat, and she was wonderful. As always.
