| As I stated in a previous post that has since fallen off the bottom of this board, I don't see how the play could make sense without at least having watched the 8 films in the series. SPOILER (kind of) : The play is about characters going back in time to change events that took place in the original series. With little knowledge of what went on in the original series, this play would have no relevance to a theatergoer. When one character states that another character from the books (who is not even a character in these plays) was killed, there is an audible and collective "GASP" from the audience. That is because those who are familiar with the series know how important that character was to the end events of the series. Without that knowledge, that revelation has no impact. Also, other characters from the series pop up, not only in the time travel sequences but in flashbacks as well. If you don't know who they are, and you don't understand their importance to the entire story arc (and it is quite an extensive arc), then I am not sure how "Cursed Child" would be enjoyable. I am not saying of course that you CAN'T enjoy it, as others have posted they enjoyed it without knowing anything about HP; it is just difficult for me to understand how the plot of the play could make any sense to someone who didn't know the original stories. I would suggest at least taking a weekend to watch the films. You will get SO much more out of "Cursed Child" if you do. |
