| I assume the current rules were designed specifically to address these situations. The two "one performance" shows you mention both had multiple previews and closed on opening night. In any event, with the current logistics (number of voters and +1's to be accommodated, not wanting voters in until the show is frozen etc etc), there is no way that a show could be compliant, and there is zero chance of an award for a show that closes on opening night, or even shortly thereafter. The early awards were much more like the Obies than the monstrosity we have now, and I seem to recall reading that the first year the awards were given at midnight, after the dinner had been cleared. |
