I haven’t seen Summer, but please allow me to offer the advice of someone else who visits NYC from out of town and can only see a few shows a year. I am a daily (if not more) visitor to ATC. I have gleaned a wealth of knowledge from it, and even solicited advice. However, I also trust my gut. If you are trying to rationalize seeing a show, buy the tickets.
This board is great for descriptions, hints, insights, and a variety of opinions. Although you can certainly see which way the wind is blowing on every show, there is always a reasonable amount of dissent. (Sometimes the wind blows one way and then turns.) What if you skip a show many here dislike, but would have been one of the dissenters who loved it?
For the record, my annual Memorial Day Weekend visit will consist of Boys in the Band, Three Tall Women, and The Play That Goes Wrong, all chosen for very specific reasons. As I’m always predisposed to enjoy what I see, I usually do.
Whatever you decide, I hope you love everything you see. Safe travels! |
