As a Harry Potter fan, I understand what you are trying to say, and I'm certain that a person that hasn't journeyed with the books and movies for so long will have the same type of reaction to the piece as a whole. And that goes for the positive and the negative - as many fellow Harry Potter that I know actually really dislike Cursed Child as a declared piece of the Harry Potter cannon. Non potter fans will not have the background to really judge how it fits in with the story as a whole. People who are casual fans probably know enough about the origin story to enjoy it just fine and perhaps more so than a fan who knows every single detail which might inhibit suspension of disbelief.

However with fabulous reviews, a stellar creative team, a strong team of actors, I can understand why theatre lovers would like to see the show itself, and I am thankful for that. Unlike many books/movies to shows, great care was taken with the property to make a great piece of theatre meaning that (hopefully) it will be around for a long while.

I truly appreciate it as a piece of theatre and as a Harry Potter fan, and I'm happy that if all goes well it will have a solid run.

While there may be the people purchasing tickets because it is the "hot ticket," I think the time investment of a two part show and the noticeable attempt with producers to deter scalpers in both countries ( in this country at least no Ticketmaster resell- unlike Hamilton) will make it less intense than the Hamilton frenzy of a few years ago.

That being said, even if the theatre was filled purely with Potter fans, it would still be a tough ticket. It isn't like it is a niche market at this point with theme parks, movie spinoffs, and a variety of other commercial endeavors that seem to be doing quite well.
