Yes, seen almost all of them, including the 7 hour Ivo Von Hove one in Dutch that came to BAM. For me, the NT's 1993 was the best production. It was simple and grand at the same time. The language and acting were spectacular and I seem to remember an almost bare set with great fluid furniture/set pieces that came in and out (on castors, as I recall) and huge American flag as a backdrop. I will never forget the scenes with Jason Isaac and Daniel Craig (who I am pretty sure were replacements when I saw them.) I thought Stephen Spinella was by far the best Prior and his understudy Joe Goede, who played and was younger, was also really good in a very beautiful, almost innocent, heartbreaking way. Jeffrey Wright was my favorite Belize - he had a wonderful touch of humanity.
I love that so many of us are able to discuss the multiple productions. What great memories this thread is bringing up. |
