Speaking of "weather shows," the completely forgotten Riverwind would work nicely in summer, too. It's set in a tourist lodge
in Indiana, and is small enough, with just (I think) seven people, to be eminently stageable.
It has a wonderful score, too, with--as so often with forgotten off-Broadway musicals--one outstanding number, "Sew the
Buttons On," a waltz in which Helon Blount sang of letting her daily chores help her get over her personal unhappiness.
It's a strangely bittersweet concoction.
Incidentally, has anyone ever noticed how many musicals take place in Indiana? |
