| I never saw or heard of the film or the story the play is based on. The play consisted of virtually unrelenting narration by the talented and well-spoken actors, several of whom play various roles. It has a "story theater" quality which directed my attention to the cleverness of the story presentation, rather than on language and meaning. What might have been charming, touching and even uplifting, was generally inert on stage. I think people familiar with the film or story, who knew the plot in advance, might have appreciated the production more. I found it a bit of a challenge to follow at times. I attended two weeks ago, and the house was about 75% and, perhaps, largely papered. The box office did not print out any tickets ahead of time and, as a result, the will call line moved like a glacier. |
