| I agree with your post 100%. But don't blame Ms Churchill for this one. I have seen three productions of this play, over the years, in the UK, and all have been spellbinding. Most recently the 2015 National Theatre production, directed by Lyndsey Turner. In this production the long Putney debates section in Act 1 was a fiery triumph at the NT - a dismal slog in this production, to be sure. A director, and a theatre's, obligation is to put the best possible cast on stage in every production. Obviously NYTW and Ms Chavkin decided not to do this on this occasion, but to a let a social/political agenda undermine an entire production, |
