Replacements have always technically been eligible for Theatre World Awards, although rarely chosen. One I was present for, was when Eric Roberts replaced John Malcovich in the original BURN THIS, Roberts won a 1988 TWA. John Willis would also occasionally give a special award, in addition to the regular 6 men and 6 women making debut performances.
I'm thrilled that Charlie Stemp is a winner for this year, but no, he is not the first replacement to win.
