"People were running around with wands, for heaven’s sake. " How condescending of Green. No doubt he would dismiss any type of fantasy upon the stage. Let's do away with The Tempest and oh, that Scottish play (witches? really!) Spare us form any future productions of a Midsummer night's Dream! And Albee's Seascape? Oh come on! Take back its Pulitzer! Barrie's Peter Pan has got to go at least in the non-musical version ( A bit of fantasy seems to be okay if you sing during it) and at least we now know that Green does believe in God and Angels since the Tony Kushner play could not be admired more by him. This production may have done the fantastical elements a bit too much for him however, stagecraft having improved since the original production and it now leaves him cold. A warning then to producers and playwrights. Do not let your vision encompass elements of the human imagination that can not be realized in this dimension for Mr. Green will not be able to see beyond them to learn if there is any meaning or message to your words. And by the way, I am not saying that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the equal to any of the plays above mentioned. IMHO, it is not but it is a good play with characters, depth and meaning beyond the fact that people run around with wands. "The Children" may indeed be a better play but "Harry Potter" is a worthy opponent.
