''The Band's Visit'' has been a lock for Best Musical and Score for months.
I wouldn't say Tina Fey is a ''lock'' for her Book to ''Mean Girls,'' but I really like her chances. She got terrific notices. She won the Outer Critics prize for Book, and is likely to repeat at the Drama Desk. Plus, I think Broadway will want to welcome and reward her by giving her the Tony.
And yes, ''SpongeBob'' and ''Mean Girls'' have the most Tony nominations (12) in a pretty skimpy season.
Last year, which was more competitive, ''Great Comet'' got 12 Tony nominations, but won only 2 of them: Sets & Lighting.
I bet ''SpongeBob'' does well at the Drama Desks (winning Musical, Actor, Featured Actor, Sets), but not as well at the Tonys. |
