| I keep reading on FaceBook this morning that the Swedish musical theatre star Ulla Sallert (best remembered over here for costarring with Robert Preston in 'BEN FRANKLIN IN PARIS' back in 1964) died yesterday at the age of 95. But I don't come up with anything when I google this, though Wikipedia has apparently already updated her bio with that date. Still, I can't find an obituary to confirm. Hmmm. I was a fan. |

| I only know Sallert from the cast recording of Ben Franklin in Paris and the various TV appearances she made during that show's Broadway run. I could swear that I saw a segment somewhere from that show where she is apparently alone in the balloon and suddenly Preston steps out of the shadows toward her. I can't remember if he then sang "To Be Alone with You" in the segment or if "A Balloon Is Ascending" was performed earlier in it. I can't recall on what TV show I saw it on or if it was in a clip I viewed online. I may have seen it at the Paley Center. Anyone else ever see it? | |

| I think in the show, Franklin was already in the basket, improbably hiding under a blanket in that tiny area. And he popped up when the balloon was already in the air. I could be wrong though. It was a long time ago. On a separate matter, from another note: I never had any trouble understanding Ulla Sallert in the show. And, typically, I was up in the balcony, and I don't think even the leads were individually miked. Could be wrong about that, too. And 95 is a good age to reach. I won't make it that far and can't sing that well. |

| Sadly looks to be true. Expressen in Sweden has confirmed her passing. I’ve always loved her Eliza in My Fair Lady. She had quite the career and a long life. Looks like I’ll have to cave in and finally buy the cast recording of Can-Can that she did in the 70s. She’ll be missed. | |

| I can’t see her name without thinking of Ken Mandelbaum’s comment in the BEN FRANKLIN section of NOT SINCE CARRIE... “Not one of the great articulators of the English language.” | |
