ME AND MY GIRL Sunday afternoon

It is a charming show w/a fun score and a quippy updated book by Stephen Fry. I did not see it on Broadway that I remember but I saw it in London w/Robert Lindsay and Su Pollard (a wacky British tv comedienne)
This production breezes along despite a few stodgy scenes and moments.Everyone works REALLY hard....and for most of it,the results are fun. There are a handful of terrific songs especially the title tune,THE LAMBETH WALK (Yeah, you can't get it out of your brain,.....Oi!!!) but the Opening of Act 2 really knocks the cricket ball out of the park. (No "googley, here!) The Ensemble led by the hilarious Simon Jones got a loud cheering ovation!
It's an audience pleaser but without big names in the leads on Broadway,I doubt it would find modern financial success. So I think it fits well in ENCORES plans!
I am not a big fan of Harriet Harris but I thought she was wonderfully cast here. Chuck Cooper had his moments but I kept looking for the no holds barred..Ken Page take on Sir John! I thought that Laura Michelle Kelly stole Christian Borle's thunder, I really loved Christian Borle in SOMETHING'S ROTTEN but here as good as he was,I was not in his corner.
A fun Mother's Day afternoon and I'm sure they will really have fun tonight......as Sondheim wrote: "I'm so glad I came!"
BTW: And I haven't researched this but the Original London production ran 8 years which means it it was running during The Blitz! A great reason to keep modulating choruses of THE LAMBETH WALK!!!!
